VNC from Anywhere With Screens 2.0

posted by Trey Trawick on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 8:30 pm. Edovia’s Screens for iOS and OS X has hit version 2.0, bringing a slew of new features and improvements to the already-great VNC client. VNC, or Virtual Network Computing, allows you to remotely access a computer’s graphical session, similar to RDP on Windows. Screens 2.0 offers iCloud synchronization for managing connections on multiple devices, a unified toolbar, AirPlay mirroring, SSH tunneling, and more. The Screens connect service, which allows you to connect to a server from anywhere in the world has also been updated with improved integration. The iOS app doesn’t come cheap at $19.99, but users who love to control their desktops from the comfort of their couch will appreciate all the features that Screens has to offer.

by Google is looking to get into the paid TV business. The company filed an application last week to provide video service to residents of Kansas City, Mo., according to . If approved, the service could launch as soon as a month from now, according to the article, which cites a “media executive currently involved in negotiations to license channels to the service.” Offerings in the video package would include live TV as well as on-demand and online access to TV channels, according to the report, which was based on an earlier article by . The source told the WSJ that Google plans to look beyond the Kansas City market and into other areas where Verizon’s Fiber Optic Services (FIOS).
OnLive Desktop brings Flash to your iPad

In January, OnLive introduced a new app called OnLive Desktop, which brings a full version of Windows 7 and Home Office to the iPad for free. OnLive Desktop beams the full version of Windows 7 to the iPad from their gigabit connected servers, and actually works quite well. Tonight, the OnLive crew has announced a new premium version of the app, called OnLive Desktop Plus, that brings Adobe’s Flash technology to the iPad… Apple has always resented Flash, leaving it out of both of its iPhone and iPad since conception. There is always a work around by using apps like VNC to view your desktop to access Flash, but since OnLive Desktop Plus is beaming Windows 7 from a server, they’re able to bring Flash on the iPad without using a desktop intermediary. OnLive’s founder Steve Perlman was the founder of Quicktime at Apple. Perlman told Wired he agreed with Apple’s move not to use Flash

Nostalgia Overload: New Tumblr Challenges You to Draw Classic Video Game Maps From Memory

by What is it about video game worlds that etch themselves so vividly in our mind’s eye? A fun new user-generated blog aims to unearth the latent digital cartographer in you. is the brainchild of Josh Millard, a self-described “nerd-type” from Portland, OR. It’s a Tumblr where readers submit video game maps they’ve drawn from memory. The idea for the site came out of idle discussion on the message board Metafliter, where Millard works as a moderator. “It occurred to me that there’s millions of people walking around with potent memories of common fictional game worlds,” Millard tells Mashable. “I asked a few friends to draw some maps, started up a simple blog for it, and here we are.” The response since he launched the site in January has been substantial. “I was banking on a few dozen [submissions] by the end of the first month. Instead, I’ve received more than

Newly Launched PlayStation Vita Gets Twitter, Flickr and Netflix [PICS]

February 22, 2012 by Chelsea Stark If 15 games available at launch for PlayStation Vita wasn’t entertaining enough, early adopters of the game system are in for a treat. Free Twitter, Flickr and Netflix apps are now available for download at the PlayStation Store. The influx of social media apps brings this portable gaming system into tablet territory. The 5-inch OLED screen really steals the show and apps are easy to access with the impressive touchscreen. Vita gamers will have to wait longer for Facebook or Foursquare apps to surface. The Sony Twitter application is LiveTweet, built specifically for the Vita. It works as well as any other Twitter clients. Twitter streams run on the middle-right of the screen, with icons for mentions, lists and direct messages available next to it. The app also allows you to attach pictures taken from your Vita’s camera to your tweets. The Netflix application looks
